During the first half of the event, Ganthet and Sayd serve as a dissenting voice among the Guardians as they acknowledge that the Blackest Night prophecy within the Book of Oa is coming to pass. The Blue Lantern Corps is rooted in the events that transpired during the Sinestro Corps War story line. First formed by the banished former- Guardians Ganthet and Sayd, they are based on the planet Odym (later Elpis) and their powers are fueled by the emotion hope. They have begun to fill an increasingly important role within Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps as major participants within the Blackest Night crossover event. The Blue Lantern Corps is one of the nine corps empowered by a specific color of the emotional spectrum within the DC Universe. Their powers, similar to those of other organizations based around the emotional spectrum, are fueled by the emotion of hope. The Blue Lantern Corps is a fictional organization appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, beginning in 2008 in Green Lantern vol. Kala Lour's responsibility as the first and newest Gold Lantern may not be the worst based on a power scale, but as a potential for what the ring can do and how someone can use it, he certainly goes well beyond the Green Lantern Corps as the worst for mankind.Interior artwork from Blackest Night 0 (July 2009 DC Comics) The Green Lanterns have certainly had their criticisms in the past as highlighted by Kala, and it's certainly worrying what the unlimited power of the Gold Lantern could bring with it.

Whether Kala comes to realize the Elders' true intentions behind the Gold Lantern or if they're really serious about evolving, it's still something to take a grain of salt about and question as this series goes on. Perhaps the Elders are twisting their words to make it sound like they're agreeing with Kala when in reality their methods of "evolving" the Lanterns goes in a different direction than what Kala was expecting. By giving exemplary power to a new higher ring, they can reach levels of enforcement that even the Green Lanterns aren't capable of.and this is likely a huge twist that could be coming later down the road. Maybe it's because the Green Lanterns themselves were failing them and weren't able to carry out what they needed to be done. It raises the question of why they're willing to evolve now. While the Guardians of Oa may try to appeal to Kala's concerns by saying that the Lanterns must evolve by describing the Gold Lantern as its " purest form," this has some negative connotations, especially when Kala himself has criticized them for being authoritarian. With that much power, a Gold Lantern could be an even bigger enforcer than the Green Lanterns ever could be, packing with them a lot of negative aspects that could make them a force to be reckoned with. It actually indicates that the position of Gold Lantern is the worst because they're the ones with a ring that rises above the Green Lanterns. Nothing about Kala himself makes him the worst at anything. So why exactly does this make him the "worst?" It doesn't. According to him, he just can't live with the reality that the Green Lantern Corps " at its core was.a military." To him, being a Lantern carries a lot of baggage that he can't deal with when he was taught to be better as a young child. When Kala confronts the Elders of Oa, he actually declines the role of Gold Lantern.
